Volvo Cars

In June 2023 I joined Volvo Cars to start a brand new content design practice. Navigating the complexities of both hardware and software design and development at a historic company like Volvo Cars has been a meaty and rewarding challenge.

Dreams

I have loved working at Dreams. In early 2020 I joined as a senior UX writer on the consumer app, tasked with improving UX best practices in the UX team. When we expanded into B2B2C, I created and implemented a new translation process for quick releases in new markets.

In 2021, Dreams Technology formed as a separate company from Dreams, and I have continued on with our B2B2C journey, first as a design lead, and, in March 2022, I became the head of design.

Electrolux

I had the pleasure of consulting with Electrolux in the winter of 2019. I wrote for Electrolux’s first in-house product, the Electrolux Wellbeing app. The app provides real-time data, remote control and the ability to schedule air purifiers and robot vacuum cleaners.

Podcasts at Spotify.jpg

Spotify

At Spotify, I was one of the first few UX writers to reckon with a 10-year-old product with 200 million global users. For two years, I was the only dedicated UX writer to the mobile team, a group that defines the vision of Spotify for implementation on all other platforms. My favorite work has been transforming Spotify’s podcast experience from an unknown feature to the new hallmark of a traditionally music-focused app.

Right now my favorite podcast is My Favorite Murder.

Elaine helped lead the direction of the product, brought clarity and purpose to the features we worked on, and was a good partner for workshopping and collaborating with our engineering team.

CrediT: GRUBHUB

Grubhub

As the first content strategist at Grubhub, I built and refined content strategy resources, collaboration processes with design, and C-level awareness of content strategy in less than two years.

Elaine possess a blend of creative writing spark and straight-forward, process-oriented UX writing craft, she deeply understands the context with which a designer is trying to communicate to the user on the other side of the pane of glass.

Contract copywriting

I sometimes freelance as a brand copywriter. My contract work has focused on digital marketing, digital experiences and scripts for production pitches. Although these projects seem distinct from each other, they share a goal: effective and authentic storytelling. How can A&E make a product placement that doesn’t feel like a commercial? How can ABC Family rebrand to fit the young-adult audience their shows have organically attracted? And what would that social media voice sound like? What would that streaming app feel like?

Past clients include: OfficeLuv, ABC Family/Freeform, SG 360, Home Depot, Cards Against Humanity, Nucontext Creative and Outreach Experts.

Dino Publishing

As an associate editor at Dino Publishing, I wrote the gamut, from feature-length, life-interest stories to branded web/print content to creative briefs and web campaigns. With a team of designers and editors, I created and sent to print lifestyle magazines and catalogs.

I know too damned much about boats.

Cards Against Humanity

I showed a comic of mine to CAH co-founder Max Temkin. He liked it and hired me as the first contract employee for Maxistentialism, Inc. and Cards Against Humanity. My proudest work with Cards was a reimagining of what the classic camp game Werewolf could be. I audited every iteration of Werewolf out there (what’s up tech industry fav Avalon!) and composed a rules compendium for all Werewolf Kickstarter backers.
